Hello!
I’m Daneen, a senior at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying journalism and information science.
I’m passionate about digital-first news, especially at the intersection of community-centric reporting and visual design. My dream job is to be a news designer or graphics reporter, but I’m also passionate about good old-fashioned investigative reporting. As long as I’m helping the news resonate with people—especially those who are historically overlooked or misrepresented by mainstream media—I’m eager to keep up the important work.
You can find my work at publications across North Carolina and Georgia, including The Current GA, The Daily Tar Heel, WUNC News and INDY Week. I am a Dow Jones News Fund alumna, won four awards of excellence and one medal from the Society for News Design, and am the proud recipient of the Islamic Scholarship Fund and South Asian Journalists Association’s merit scholarships. I’m also currently working on an undergraduate honors thesis exploring trust in local news among people of color.
